Tour Down Under, Stage 5, Australia

-

With Giro d’Italia glory his season objective, Richie Porte served a notice of intent with an impressive victory atop Old Willunga Hill. The Tasmanian attacked 2km out and rode away from his rivals to finish alone ahead of Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida). While he took the time bonuses, the gap between him and rivals Simon Gerrans and Cadel Evans wasn’t sufficient for him to assume race leadership. With a single stage remaining, it was Gerrans who was in the hot seat for a third Tour Down Under win.
