I recently experienced one of modern cycling’s new perils – my Di2 battery went flat mid-ride. My riding partner, who I often tease about his lack of mechanical sympathy, took great delight in this. Stuck in the small ring, rationing my remaining rear mech shifts, I was forced to sit on his wheel and spin furiously to keep up. I still love Di2 but it’s a reminder that the battery doesn’t last forever. The Scultura now rides on some luxury rubber – 25c Vittoria Pave CG Open Clinchers. Their extra girth and 320TPI construction have added a new silkiness and sure-footedness to the Merida.
