Quick-Step's Philippe Gilbert leads Sky rider Micha¯ Kwiatkowski in their two-up break at the end of the Amstel Gold Race. The escape pitted the winner of Milan-San Remo against the winner of the Tour of Flanders. With both riders both having also won the Dutch race in the past, the !inishing sprint was a closely-fought one. Kwiatkowski tried to jump Gilbert with 250 metres to go, but the Belgian champion managed to squeeze back past the Pole to cap a brilliant spring and con!irm a welcome return to top form
