MR AMSTEL GOLD

When Philippe Gilbert sprinted to victory in the 2017 Amstel Gold Race, he took his tally of wins in the event to four. But he’s still one behind ‘Mr Amstel Gold’, Jan Raas, who won ive editions between 1977 and 1982. During Raas’s career the Amstel Gold Race inished in Valkenburg and his ability to get over the climbs of Limburg and then outsprint all other survivors made him unbeatable in his home Classic.

Along with his Amstel Gold wins, he also won three Dutch championships and 10 Tour stages.
