As with Trentin, Arnaud Démare’s Tour fate was sealed on stage 9 when he eventually missed the time cut after suffering for days with stomach problems. Yet with a maiden grand tour stage win now under his belt and seemingly determined to showcase the French tricolore as much as possible, the 26-year-old recovered quickly. He finished second at the Hamburg Cyclassics behind Elia Viviani, but got his finish spot-on a week later at the Brussels Cycling Classic to claim his first win in the 201km long one-day race - also one of the oldest on the cycling calendar.
