REFOCUS FOR 2018
Whether Quick-Step can continue their impressive run of victories into the 2018 season remains to be seen, but they will be trying to repeat the feat without some key riders from this year. Marcel Kittel is leaving the Belgian squad to join Katusha-Alpecin, Dan Martin is going to UAE!Emirates and Matteo Trentin is moving to Orica-Scott. They won 22 races between them. The team is hardly at a loss, however, in either the sprints or stage races. Gaviria is staying and Elia Viviani has been signed from Sky in a bid to compensate for Kittel’s absence. Gaviria has never raced at the Tour de France and the prospect of him and his former team-mate "inally going head-to-head next year is one to relish. Similarly, with Martin having been the team’s leader at the Tour, the focus at stage races and the grand tours will centre around Alaphilippe and Jungels who have now completed two grand tours each. Alaphilippe was due to be a key support rider for Martin in this year’s Tour, but he had to undergo knee surgery which also ruled him out of the Ardennes Classics. Jungels will be aiming to improve on his two top-10 overall results at the Giro.
