Procycling - - Stefan Küng -

The proud holder of Liechtenstein citizenship thanks to his grandmother, who was born there, Stefan Küng is a big deal in a small country. “I’m one of theirs,” he says. “If I do well, then in the media there then they talk about ‘double citizen Stefan Küng.’” Swiss irst and foremost, Küng has twice won silverware for his second claim country – which has just 35,000 citizens — at the Games of the Small States of Europe, a biennial (and non-UCI) competition for athletes from Europe’s smallest nine states. Now arguably their most successful rider, Küng is proud of his heritage. He fantasises about swapping nationalities and wearing the Liechtensteiner national champion’s jersey for the rest of his career, and he’s only half joking. “It’s like one big village; everyone knows everyone,” he continues. “When I go riding with my friends there you hear all these rumours! And we’re proud of our country, like we Swiss are too. I’m pretty proud!”
