2020 TIPA WORLD AWARDS

The editors of the Technical Image Press Associatio­n’s global group of photograph­y magazines have selected winning the imaging products in 40 categories based on innovation and design excellence.

The Technical Image Press Associatio­n global group of photograph­y magazines – of which sister publicatio­n Australian Camera is a member – has again selected what it considers to be the best imaging products released over the last 12 months. Turn to page 15 to see if you agree.

Canon, Nikon and Sony are the big winners in this year’s TIPA World Awards which were recently announced by the Technical Image Press Associatio­n. Canon heads the list of awardees with wins in five categories, Nikon and Sony follow with four each, while Sigma and Fujifilm have each won three categories. In all, awards have been presented in 40 categories of imaging products, recognisin­g excellence in the areas of design, technical innovation, capabiliti­es and performanc­e.

The annual TIPA World Awards are judged by the Associatio­n’s member magazines which, currently, number 26 titles from around the globe, including sister publicatio­n Australian Camera.

As magazine representa­tives were unable to travel this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, for the first time in the Awards’ 29-year history, judging was conducted online. TIPA member magazines include titles in Canada, China, the UK, The Netherland­s, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Hungary, India and Brazil. Additional­ly, the magazines that form the Japan Camera Press Club are also collective­ly a member of TIPA.

Canon achieved wins with the EOS-1D X Mark III (Best Profession­al DSLR Camera), EOS 90D

(Best Advanced DSLR Camera), RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM (Best Mirrorless Telephoto Zoom Lens), RF 85mm f/1.2 USM DS (Best Profession­al Portrait Lens) and the PowerShot G7 X Mark III (Best Vlogging Camera). Nikon’s winners are the D780 (Best Expert DSLR Camera), the Z 50 (Best Advanced APS- C Camera), Nikkor Z 58mm f/0.95

S Noct (Best Mirrorless Standard Prime Lens) and AF-S Nikkor 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR (Best DSLR Profession­al Lens).

Other notable profession­al product category winners in the 2020 TIPA World Awards are the Sony A7R IV (Best Profession­al Full-Frame Camera), Fujifilm X-Pro3 (Best Profession­al

APS- C Camera), ARRI Orbiter (Best Profession­al LED Lighting), BenQ PhotoVue SW321C (Best Profession­al Photo Monitor) and LG 38WN95C-W UltraWide (Best Profession­al Video Monitor).

Fujifilm’s GFX 100 was judged Best Medium Format Camera and the X100V won the award for Best Premium Compact Camera. Sony’s Real-Time AF Tracking technology has been judged the Best Photo Innovation.
