Coffs rallies around motorsport
In his novel The Art of Racing in the Rain, American writer and former racing-car driver Garth Stein notes that, “Your car goes where your eyes go. The driver who cannot tear his eyes away from the wall as he spins out of control will meet that wall.”
While drivers competing in northern NSW’s Rally Australia might not find the walls eye-catching, the rolling hills, green glades and water views of the Coffs Coast course may be another story entirely.
The rally starts in the village of Taylors Arm (best known for being the site of Slim Dusty’s A Pub with No Beer) and finishes at Flooded Gums Rally Village, south of Coffs Harbour. A highlight is the Super Special Stage, a challenging waterfront course in Coffs Harbour that drivers undertake twice.
Rally Australia runs from November 17 to 20 and is the final stop in this year’s FIA World Rally Championship.
