FESTIVALS AND summer go hand in hand. The season in Australia kicks off as soon as the temperature starts to rise, and there’s something on offer for every taste.

One notable example is the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Each January, this legendary event almost doubles the population of Tamworth, NSW, showcasing the city and its beautiful surrounds to more than 60,000 local and international visitors annually. Over the years, it has helped launch global names like Keith Urban and Troy Cassar-Daley.

QantasLink’s history with Tamworth goes back almost 70 years, with a branch of our roots proudly traced to the oneaircraft, one-pilot operation of the Tamworth Air Taxi Service. Today, there are 36 return services to the destination per week on our Q300 and Q400 aircraft. And we’re one of Tamworth’s largest employers, with more than 100 people working at our heavymaintenance hangar. For all those reasons, we’re absolutely delighted to be involved with the festival as a sponsor.

Festival season also takes us to the southern states – in particular, the South Australian coastal city of Port Lincoln.

If you haven’t yet tossed a tuna at the annual Tunarama Festival, the event is certainly worth a visit. Who knows – if you can master a hammer-style toss, you might even break the 37.23-metre record set by former Olympian Sean Carlin in 1998.

Tunarama is another event that has stood the test of time. Now in its 56th year, the festival is on from January 25 to 28. Our QantasLink fireworks display always draws a crowd to the jetty and seeing the sky lit up over Boston Bay is something you won’t forget in a hurry.

So, if you haven’t yet decided on your New Year’s resolution, make sure you add a trip to these fantastic destinations to the short list!

I hope you enjoy reading Spirit as much as our writers enjoy uncovering the best of Australia to share with you in each edition. Happy New Year.
