Summer travel hints
Take some tips from one of Ipswich’s most travelled people
WITH Christmas fast approaching and 2018 just around the corner, you need to plan early to secure your seat on a plane, to your ideal destination, with your choice in accommodation. So many families see Christmas the perfect time to explore somewhere new and importantly spend quality time together. Booking early, pre-paying arrangements such as accommodation, car hire, tours will give you peace of mind and ensure a happy holiday for grandparents, parents and children.
Other things to consider in your planning are:
Before leaving home
■ Are you celebrating a special occasion?
■ Look at upgrading your seat, your hotel view or location, cruise cabin category
■ Purchase travel accessories – adaptors, luggage locks & straps, wallets, alarm clocks
■ Check if a visa is needed for the country you are visiting
■ When packing - pack once and then take out about half of what you have packed
■ If you are taking medications, make sure you have enough for your trip, and carry all medications in your carry on baggage
■ Check hand and checked luggage restrictions for the airline you are travelling on
■ Advise if you have any special meal requests
■ Ensure that you have adequate travel insurance as overseas medical and hospitalisation can prove to be extremely expensive.
■ Check your luggage is clearly labelled
■ Make sure you have all pre-paid vouchers and itinerary
■ Buy a Cash Passport card and load in Australian dollars or choose from 10 pre-loadable foreign currencies.
■ Buy a small amount of foreign currency for the country you are visiting
■ Register your travel with Smartraveller and download the free app.
■ Register with your bank the period you are away and check whether your ATM card will work overseas.
During the journey
■ Make sure you take regular walks around the plane to maintain good circulation
■ Drink plenty of water to avoid becoming dehydrated
■ Adjust your watch to local time of your destination
On arrival at your destination
■ Never leave your bags unattended or allow anybody to carry your bags
■ Always be aware of people around you
■ Enjoy yourself
It’s been quite a year for all of us at the Helloworld Travel Riverlink store.
Destinations we have travelled to this year include Europe, Africa, America, Tasmania, South Pacific and as cruising continues to grow in popularity (we all know how much Ipswich locals love a good cruise getaway) we have cruised aboard the Ovation of the Seas, Scenic & Tauck Europe River Cruises along with the Pacific Dawn and Sun Princess to check out what they can offer you, our clients. Sometimes experience counts when it comes to offering travel advice.
Sharon, Robyn, Vanessa, Lisa and Cameron look forward to being of service to you for all your holiday needs this summer and beyond.
Now is the time to book your next overseas holiday. The sooner you book, the more you can plan your fun.
