Work­ing along­side her father (he’s the “Dou­glas” in Dou­glas and Bec), it’s not sur­pris­ing he was in­volved in the house. “The sharp edges, sim­plic­ity and square shapes – that aes­thetic comes from Dad,” Bec says. “Be­ing a farmer he was used to build­ing things like fences that are strong and square. This is off­set by the more fem­i­nine in­flu­ence I bring with the cir­cles and lamps. I love geo­met­ric shapes. It’s some­thing that has been present in all my work since I started making.”

“We lived in a clunky bun­ga­low in the city, and spent our 20s col­lect­ing things. Then, we moved to the coun­try and lived in a tiny one bed­room cot­tage. Af­ter putting most of our pos­ses­sions in stor­age, we re­alised how lit­tle we ac­tu­ally needed. This was the start of liv­ing smarter, with less. ”
