HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER JULIA POUND TELLS US WHAT IT’S LIKE LIVING WITH MELBOURNE’S MOST DAPPER TOY MALTESE-POODLE CROSS TEDDY

WE ARE FAMILY TEDDY, 8, LIVES WITH JULIA AND HER PARTNER ANDREW IN THEIR COLOURFUL FITZROY HOME. @IAMDAGMAR AND @FRENCH_BY_JUJU

Dog talk Before finding Teddy, Julia and Andrew would spend most evenings meticulously describing to each other dogs they had seen during the day. Julia says, “It became a bit nonsensical to be so obsessed and not own one, so it seemed natural we add a pooch to our family.”

TEDDY IS ONE STYLISH DOG, AND HIS SARTORIAL CHOICES STOP MOST PEOPLE IN THEIR TRACKS.

From his jaunty bow tie collection to his quirky taste in harnesses, this personable pooch makes pals wherever he goes.

If Teddy was a human, what type of person would he be?

Exactly like he is now: highly strung, neurotic, joyous and a gifted ball-catcher. He’d also probably drink sparkling water and watch a lot of TED videos.

What’s the craziest thing you have ever done for Teddy?

He once jumped out of the car window as I was turning right on a busy road. I stopped my car right then and there and ran out into oncoming traffic to save him. Basically, I risked my own life for the silly little bugger!

Teddy has to have one of the most stylish canine wardrobes in Melbourne. What’s his go-to outfit?

His favourite is a checked green and white bow tie, styled with a maroon and navy paisley harness. It’s a bit wrong and clashy, but he’s so handsome he actually pulls it off.

What do you love most about Teddy?

The way he looks back at me with a big smile on his face while we’re out walking, as if to say, “How great is it to be alive?!”

What’s Teddy’s worst housemate habit?

Probably staring at me like a weirdo while I’m in the bath.

Does Teddy have any trademark quirks?

He’s an expert at spotting other animals on television, regardless of whether the sound is on or not. He’ll recognise any non-human, living thing and start barking maniacally until we change the channel. Whoever said that dogs can’t see TV was mistaken!

Now be honest: where does Teddy sleep?

On our bed in between us. I won’t lie, it’s annoying, but I’m afraid he’s definitely the one who calls the shots around here!

Warm welcome Teddy loves having guests and he doesn’t discriminate. “He’ll snuggle up alongside all who visit, whether he’s met them before or not,” Julia says.

Friend with benefits Julia says Teddy has contributed greatly to her overall wellbeing. “He’s made me healthier and less selfish. I was in dire need of both of those life improvements at the time we got him.”

Fun facts Teddy’s full name is Little Ted Pound-Lacey, his favourite brunch spot is Napier Quarter in Fitzroy and the last show he binge-watched was The Handmaid’s Tale.
