How we test them

We use Stan­dard Met­ric Mea­sures. All mea­sures are level. 1 ta­ble­spoon = 20ml 1 tea­spoon = 5ml 1 cup liq­uid = 250ml We use 59-60g eggs. Oven tem­per­a­tures are given for con­ven­tional ovens and re­duced by 20°C for fan-forced (con­vec­tion) cook­ing. How­ever, as ovens vary by at least 10°C, check man­u­fac­turer’s hand­book for rec­om­men­da­tions. We also use an 800-watt mi­crowave oven.

How we cost them

Costs per serve (in A$) as printed through­out the mag­a­zine are guides only. Prices were recorded at su­per­mar­kets and at sub­ur­ban butch­ers and green­gro­cers as we went to press. Cost­ings for ma­jor food items are based on the best buys af­ter com­par­ing ma­jor or home brands. Cost­ings for all in­gre­di­ents and fresh pro­duce, when in sea­son, are only for the quan­tity needed for each recipe. All prices quoted for recipes are sub­ject to GST and also price in­creases.
