Dave Baker on the Ward Thomas songs he most enjoys playing live

“‘Guilty Flowers’ is such a well written song that really it just plays itself. It’s one of those songs that’s so well ingrained, the parts are so clear and I can be a bit more of a showman when I’m playing it. There’s also a track called ‘Boomerang’, which I really like playing live. That’s had a lot of workshopping to get right, but I’ve enjoyed the process of where it started and where it is now from a live point of view. It’s a four-to-the-floor pop stomper. We recently did the title track ‘Cartwheels’ as a full band too. The single version has drums but the album version doesn’t, so we decided to put a rhythm section to it for live performances. It’s such an emotive song and it’s very personal to the girls. To be able to play along with that tune felt quite special to me. Then you’ve got ‘Carry You Home’ at the end of the set, which is a big tune where you just go for it.”
