Rhythm - - GEAR REVIEW - Frank, what is special about the SQ1?

Product Manager for Drums and Marching at Sonor in Germany

“The most important invention is the Sound Sustainers, a new concept of shell suspension used on the rack toms and floor toms. The idea comes from vibration dampers from the automotive industry. The only connection between drum shell and tom holder is the rubber part, which is vulcanised on the shell side to the three attachment screws and at the outside to the mounting plate for the bracket.” Is the SQ1 like an SQ2 but with limited options? “The custom SQ2 drum system has numerous options, while the SQ1 is a regular series. The SQ1 shares many parts with our SQ2 series, such as lugs, bass drum and floor tom brackets, Dual Glide snare strainer, 2.3mm Power Hoops etc.

“Also new is our finish concept which relates to classic cars and motorcycles. Like with white ribbon tyres on old cars the automotive concept is underlined by the offset bass drum hoops in Walnut and Natural. Especially for SQ1 we’ve also designed a new Fiberskyn-3 bass drum resonant head with a smaller, offset Sonor logo.”
