Rhythm - - COMPETITION -

For this month’s Rhythm competition we’re offering one lucky reader the opportunity to boost their cymbal set-up with some unique and bold new sounds. The prize comes courtesy of UFIP, a company with 86 years of cymbal-making pedigree.

For starters we have the mini China-style 12" Samba splash, designed for Latin but with enough muscle to cut through heavier styles too. The extensively hammered 18" Blast crash delivers fast, explosive accents, while the 20" Flat ride is a sweet sounding cymbal with bags of stick definition, plus enough wash to work as a tasty crash/ride. Finally, we have the quirky Ximbao FX, a unique instrument that started life as a 16" cymbal before being cut into this pizza-slice shape and peppered with over-sized rivets and washers top and bottom. The result is a sharp, aggressive effect that sounds a lot like an electronic hi-hat. Together this Tuscan-made quartet make a formidable collection of leftfield cymbals that would freshen up any drummer’s sound.
