Core Of iO

Rhythm - - BEAT! -

I would describe my drumming style as…

“Eclectic. I sincerely love all genres of music and draw influence from as many different styles as I can find, I love originality!”

The secret to playing well is…

“Hard work, patience, dedication and open mindedness are all huge parts of playing well.”

My first kit was…

“Sonor Force 2005 Birch.” My favourite drummers to date are… “I have way too many to name butI guess Ari Hoenig, Eric Harland, Elvin Jones, Thomas Pridgen, Chris Coleman, Matt Garstka, Thomas Haake and Billy Rymer.”

Self-taught or lessons?

“A mixture of the two. Lessons really helped spark off my passion from a young age but I have been self-taught for at least six or seven years now. Both are good in different ways.”

Best drumming advice I’ve been given is…

“When it comes to practice; TA KE IT SLOOOOWWW BABY! It’s frustrating not being able to nail something but taking it slow and speed training can almost guarantee the ability to learn anything with patience. When it comes to playing, the best advice I’ve heard is to listen to everyone around you.”

I use…

“I’m proudly endorsed by Serenity Drums. I have genuinely never seen or heard drums like them. Also Jon Hammond, the owner, has really helped me out, absolute legend! Drums include Full Birch 22"x13" kick, 10"x5" and 12"x6" rack toms, 16"x15" floor and my absolutely treasured 14"x4½" Ash and Mahogany snare with beech hoops [pictured]. I use Zildjian, Sabian and Meinl cymbals for different settings, and Vic Firth sticks.”

What I’m up to right now is…

“After Core of iO’s fourth EP release, we are in the process of writing our debut album. As well as that I am working on my own album and getting some clinics together. I am also in the early stages of collaborating with various artists, writing and creating original music of all styles.”
