There are plenty of influential drummers out there, and then there are the absolute legends of the instrument. The kind of player whose influence is cited by drummers from all styles and eras of music. Steve Gadd is the latter, and should need very little introduction. So we jumped at the chance to put the king of groove on our cover this month. As well as our interview – where Steve talks about theSteve Gadd Band, his session career, and why he’ll never stop searching for new sounds – we’ve also brought you seven lessons on how to emulate Steve’s playing for yourself, with some of his most distinctive techniques explained both in video and notation.

Also this month: we speak toAlice in Chains’ Sean Kinney, Jason McGerr of Death Cab For Cutie, and Anton Fig sits down for The Rhythm Interview. As always, we’re bringing you killer playalong tracks – this issue its’ the S’tones classic ‘Honky Tonk Women’, and a double-kick workout on Deep Purple’s ‘Fireball’. Finally, we’ve hunted down the freshest gear out there from the likes ofMeinl, Spaun, Dream and much more! See you next time.
