Scott lots of friends but Matt reckons Jesse has him covered
JESSE BROMWICH HAS BEEN GIVEN the ultimate accolade as he prepares to lock horns with Cronulla’s powerhouse pack in this Sunday’s decider.
Cowboys prop Matt Scott, who was voted the best prop in the game by his peers in the 2016 RLW Players’ Poll, says the honour belongs with the Storm and Kiwi enforcer.
And while disappointed not to be lining up against Bromwich in the grand final, Scott says he has every intention of making himself available for the Kangaroos, where he will do battle with Bromwich again.
Scott has been a regular winner of the RLW best prop award but insists Bromwich, who was in second place, is the complete front-rower.
“I was extremely honoured to hear that [poll result] from my peers but my vote goes with Jesse because I think he’s the most complete front-rower in the game and without doubt the best,” Scott says.
“There are guys who get a lot of mentions because they run big metres.
“Jesse does all that. He’s extremely hard to handle with the ball, with a good offload and pre-line pass.
“But he’s also very good defensively and does a lot of the hard things which I value in my own game, but that a lot of front-rowers don’t. He takes top spot in my book and that’s why any time I come up against him I treat him with the ultimate respect.”
Scott is hopeful he and Bromwich can renew hostilities in the Four Nations, even though he’s coming off a gruelling year following neck surgery last preseason to cure chronic pain going down his arms.
“I don’t need a rest and I’m more than willing to play,” Scott says.
“My body is feeling really good. I’ve had a couple of niggles towards the back end of the year but for someone my age that’s not unusual after a full year.
“I’m on top of most of the areas in terms of fitness and health-wise.
“I still have weeks where I get the pain back but nothing like last year. That was getting pretty bad, which is why I had the surgery.
“But in the game of rugby league you are never going to be fully healed.”
