Former Maroon Chris Walker has played his last Queens­land Cup game af­ter pulling the pin on his come­back. De­spite clos­ing in on his 37th birth­day, Walker was tar­get­ing a come­back with the Ip­swich Jets if he could get down to 90kg in time for pre-sea­son train­ing. He didn’t make it and has in­formed his broth­ers, Jets coaches Ben and Shane, that he won’t be avail­able in 2017, af­ter ear­lier re­tir­ing at the end of the 2015 sea­son. Walker will still do some as­sis­tant coach­ing for the Tu­gun Sea­hawks on the Gold Coast.
