RLW prediction: Bottom third
2016 finish: 12th Coach Kim Williams: “We’ve added size up front and we are looking to muscle up against the bigger sides, which we struggled to do last year. A couple of our young forwards like Bill Cullen and Jack Kavanagh were good last year in their first season at this level, and they will be even better in 2017. If we can match it with teams in the forwards we feel as though we have a really slick backline with new recruits Jack Madden in the halves and Krys Freeman at hooker directing us around the field.”
Player to watch: “Matt Groat [above] was an NRL prop at 19 [with the Tigers] and had two years at Melbourne. He’s only 24 and wants to get back into the NRL. He’s a big unit who will give us real quality and leadership in the middle, and he has genuine ball-playing skills.” Groat comes to the club from the Dewsbury Rams, who play in the second-tier Championship in the UK, where he racked up 12 games last year.
KEY GAINS: Matt Groat (Dewsbury Rams, UK), Krys Freeman (Newcastle Knights), Jack Madden (Wentworthville Magpies)
KEY LOSSES: Matt Minto (Souths Logan), Samson Graham (Redcliffe)
