Collapse Will Flood Entire Cities

Not only Mosul will be in trouble, if the dam collapses. The wave will affect several cities on the Tigris River.

-

In 2016, the European Commission calculated the effects of a Mosul Dam collapse. A worst- case scenario would release a 26-m-high wave, which would flood Mosul and its 1.7 million inhabitants after just two hours warning. Afterwards, a 16-mwave would strike the cities of Bayji, Tikrit, and Samarra. Three days later, the wave would reach Baghdad and its 8.7 million citizens. Estimates suggest up to 1.47 million people could be killed and over six million would be directly affected by the flooding.
