Mosquitoes Snatched in Flight

-

Mosquitoes are among jumping spiders’ preferred prey. This large family of spiders don't spin silk. Instead, they chase prey, and attack when they get close. These spiders are so fast, they can easily grab mozzies in mid-air. Spiders don't have large, muscular legs for jumping. Instead they increase the fluid pressure in their legs just before jumping, so they are stretched completely and forcefully. Consequently, a jumping spider can jump many times its own length.
