A comment we sometimes hear, particularly at dive shows, is that “DAN is just an insurance company”. This assessment is not correct, as it fails to factor in the many and varied contributions DAN makes within the diving community that are the driving forces for our existence.
Unlike our competitors who are simply for-profit insurance sellers,
DAN is a non-profit diving safety organisation. Our mission is “to be the most recognised and trusted organisation worldwide in the fields of diver safety and emergency services, health, research and education of its members, instructors, supporters and the recreational diving community at large”.
To raise revenue to enable DAN to fund this mission, we offer divers Membership and Dive Injury
The primary role of DAN is to make diving safer. As a team, we strive to achieve this through:
• providing education to our members and the diving community at large; providing accident management (oxygen and first aid) training; • conducting research into diving-related issues; and providing emergency support, and follow-up, to members in the event of a diving accident.
As part of DAN Asia-Pacific’s education role, we will launch two major safety campaigns in 2018, commencing with our air quality (Safety Is in the
Air) campaign. We encourage you to stay connected with DAN AP via our social media channels as much of the campaign information will be shared online via our Facebook page (search “DAN Asia Pacific”) and via our blog (www.daninsider.org). Information will also be shared on our website,
www.danap.org, within the
“Diving Safety” section.
We will also reinvigorate some past campaigns that are still relevant to all divers, in an effort to reduce the number of diving accidents and injuries. DAN AP’s safety campaigns were all initiated following a need that was identified through research projects, or through case management of diving accidents.
We would love to see a world where diving accidents were non-existent and dive-related coverage was not needed; but until that happens, DAN will continue to provide education and information to divers to try and reduce incidents, whilst also providing coverage for those who find themselves in need of assistance.
DAN is not just an insurance company. We are so much more than that. We are your diving safety organisation.
