- Ambulance community officers will work alongside career paramedics in Nagambie.

Ambulance Victoria is on the look out for Nagambie’s first Ambulance community officers (ACOs), and they want you.

ACOs support Ambulance Victoria paramedics by working alongside career paramedics to deliver treatment and transport.

An information session for prospective ACO candidates will be held tomorrow night at 7 pm.

‘‘We will soon have an ambulance permanently based in Nagambie and are now seeking expressions of interest from members of the community to get involved,’’ Western Hume region group manager John Morris said.

‘‘ACOs are members of our community who have a genuine community spirit and an interest in patient care. ACOs may be employed, self-employed, not working or semi-retired with a current drivers licence.

‘‘ACOs go through a recruitment selection process and then an initial training program which covers clinical aspects of the role as well as driver standards and manual handling techniques. As casual employees, ACOs are paid for attending training sessions and emergency call outs.

‘‘Whether you are considering a possible career change or just want to help make a difference in the community, apply to become an ACO and join the team at Nagambie.’’

Mr Morris also added that Nagambie CERT volunteers, who have provided an exceptional service to the community for more than a decade, will be supported and trained to build their skills and become paid ACOs.

‘‘We are also looking for fresh faces to join us in a rewarding contribution to the community,’’ he said.

‘‘We’ll be there on the night to explain more about the role and answer any questions, and we will also provide opportunity for individuals to express their interest.’’

The Ambulance community officer information session will be held tomorrow night (August 25) from 7 pm to 8.30 pm at the Nagambie Lakes Entrainment Centre, 301-305 High St, Nagambie.
