Heritage train trip to Queensclif­f

- Passengers at Seymour Railway Station enjoy a heritage train ride.

The Seymour Railway Heritage Centre invites you on a special vintage diesel-haul heritage railway tour to Geelong on October 8.

The option to travel on to Queensclif­f by coach will also be available.

While in Geelong, visitors can enjoy the beautiful parks, beach front and shopping, or if they choose to travel on to Queensclif­f, they can go on a number of optional tours, including:

Day out with Thomas: unlimited rides with Thomas the Tank Engine and the Troublesom­e Trucks; enjoy a steamtrain ride to Lakers Siding behind one of Thomas’ Friends, and meet up with Sir Topham Hatt.

Queensclif­f Fort: tour a 19th Century Coastal Artillery Fort, operating as an Australian Army Base, with more than 150 years of Australia’s heritage on display.

This Fort is one of Victoria’s most important heritage sites and one of the largest and best preserved forts in the country.

South Bay Discovery Tour: explore the pristine Marine National Parks of southern Port Phillip Bay.

Visit areas only accessible by boat, on an up-close naturebase­d adventure highlighti­ng the unique history, wildlife and coastal landscape. View bottlenose dolphins cruising over the shallow sand bars, visit Australian fur seals at Chinaman’s Hat and see the Australasi­an gannet at their breeding colony on Pope’s Eye.

Queensclif­f Maritime Museum: escape into Queensclif­f’s fascinatin­g past of shipwrecks, rescues and the lifeboat, and the pilots who continue to bring ships safely through the rip and into port. The train will be hauled by Blue and Gold heritage locomotive­s and passengers will travel in the comfortabl­e former Spirit of Progress ‘S’ class carriages, complete with compartmen­t seating.

A range of light refreshmen­ts and drinks will be available at the kiosk on board, the parlour car will have a licensed bar with beer and wine, and the dining car will be serving tea and coffee.

Passengers can travel in first class comfort in the recently refurbishe­d VAM former sleeping carriage; private compartmen­ts come with a compliment­ary bottle of wine and cheese platter upon arrival.

The train will depart Seymour at 7.15 am, stopping for pick up at Broadford, Kilmore East, Wallan and Broadmeado­ws before arriving at Geelong railway station.
