Ex­tra roads fund­ing

Mitchell Shire Coun­cil will con­tinue to ad­vo­cate for ad­di­tional roads net­work fund­ing.

Cr Bob Humm’s no­tice of mo­tion at the De­cem­ber meet­ing called on coun­cil to con­tinue to ad­vo­cate to the state and fed­eral gov­ern­ments for in­creased fund­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties for the main­te­nance, up­grade and de­vel­op­ment of the coun­cil’s sealed and unsealed road net­work.

‘‘This ad­vo­cacy is to in­clude both an in­crease in fund­ing and the ex­ten­sion of the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment’s current ‘Roads to Re­cov­ery’ pro­gram be­yond 2018-2019,’’ he said.

‘‘And ad­di­tional fund­ing for the con­struc­tion and up­grade of a num­ber of crit­i­cal in­fra­struc­ture in­clud­ing in­ter­changes and con­nec­tor/ link roads in the south of the Shire to ad­dress current and fu­ture pres­sures on the ex­ist­ing road net­work which is re­quired to ser­vice the north­ern growth cor­ri­dor.’’

It was sec­onded by Cr Bill Chisholm and car­ried unan­i­mously.
