Model gives first-class care
Seymour Health and local GPs have collaborated to introduce a new and innovative model of care for weekends involving highly-skilled nurse practitioners.
This service, which will begin on May 5, aims to provide the best possible health care to meet the changing needs of our community.
The proactive decision to introduce nurse practitioners was jointly agreed to by Seymour Health and the town’s general practice clinics.
A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who has been endorsed to investigate, diagnose, treat and refer patients of all ages with a variety of acute and chronic conditions.
The initiative uses highly experienced and expertly trained nurse practitioners to provide the expert care that the Seymour community deserves.
Three expert nurse practitioners with numerous years of nursing experience in emergency and acute care combined with clinical leadership, research and academia will provide the weekend service.
Dr Tash Jennings is an emergency nurse practitioner at a major metro emergency department, where she pioneered the development of the role.
Endorsed nurse practitioner Dr Grainne Lowe has extensive interest in the medication management process.
Dr Kathy Tori has advanced qualifications in the specialty practice areas of critical care, trauma management and rural and remote nursing.
Together, these senior and dedicated nurse practitioners bring a level of expert care to Seymour Health.
Local GPs Eliot Jarman and Rob Peterson fully endorse the move.
They said Seymour residents could be assured of first-class care.
‘‘The Goulburn River Group Practice and Seymour Medical Clinic welcome the nurse practitioner model of care to Seymour Health and have full confidence in the high standard of care that will continue to be provided,’’ they said.
Seymour Health has successfully supported a nurse practitioner model of care since 2007. Many community members would be familiar with the quality of care provided by current and past nurse practitioners Pettina Hodgson and Debra Bourne.
