Reserves’ slow start proves costly at finish

A disappoint­ing first-half effort saw Seymour leave things too late for a comeback against Shepparton United.

A goalless first quarter from the Lions let United get out to an unassailab­le 18-point lead by quarter-time.

The Lions finally managed to get a goal on the scoreboard in the second quarter but were unable to reduce the Demons’ early lead.

Seymour stayed with United for the remainder of the match, kicking three goals in each of the third and fourth quarters, but couldn’t overcome its slow start.

Jay Eager was the best of the bunch for Seymour.

Thirds

Shepparton United was too strong for the Lions in a one-sided contest at Deakin Reserve.

The Lions trailed by nine points at the first change and looked half a chance against the Demons until half-time.

Seymour was able to match United in most department­s and trailed by only 10 points at the long break.

A bad third quarter for the Lions saw them kick just two points while United managed three majors to blow its lead out to five goals.

The Lions couldn’t keep up as the match waned and the Dees took advantage, booting another five goals in the final term to run out 46-point winners.

Seymour Football Netball Club is looking for a boundary umpire to run the boundary in the reserves for the rest of the season.

The umpire will be paid $30 a game for their efforts, and anyone, male or female, can apply.
