More than just a roof overhead
For the better part of two decades it’s been known as Rural Housing Network, but the organisation changed its name last week.
BeyondHousing in Tallarook St, Seymour was officially launched last Tuesday, and chair Sue Paini said the new name reflected what they do more accurately — assisting people beyond their housing needs.
‘‘RHN was formed in 1998 and became a housing association in 2007, housing people throughout northeast Victoria and the Goulburn Valley,’’ Ms Paini said.
‘‘Our mission has evolved to provide support, housing and advocacy for people at risk of homelessness and those in private rental experiencing housing stress.
‘‘This contemporary approach requires a modern name and presentation. We feel BeyondHousing expresses what we do well: we assist people beyond simply their housing needs.’’
BeyondHousing chief executive Celia Adams said people without affordable and safe accommodation often require support in other areas of their lives, which the BeyondHousing team provides in collaboration with other support agencies.
‘‘People coming to us may need assistance with managing finances, be dealing with family violence, health and mental health issues, addiction or be involved with child protection services,’’ she said.
‘‘Once people have safe, affordable housing, evidence shows they are better able to engage in day-today activities for them and their families. In this way, a home enables people to go beyond where they have been.
‘‘BeyondHousing’s services won’t change. We have the same friendly, compassionate team and continue to deliver the high standards of service we did as the Rural Housing Network.’’
BeyondHousing’s phone number and office location has remained the same. They can be contacted at 54 Tallarook St, Seymour or phone 5735 2000.
