Brigades open to public
CFA’s District 12 headquarters will throw open its doors to the public tomorrow, giving the community a chance to see first-hand what happens at HQ.
It is also the perfect opportunity for the community to see what the CFA does to keep everyone safe and deliver valuable fire safety messages.
The open day will run from 10 am until noon at District 12 headquarters in McIntyre St, Seymour.
A recruitment display and morning tea will be on offer, while residents can get to know what happens in the ICC and how District headquarters works as a non-operational brigade.
Broadford Fire Brigade will also host an open day this month.
The brigade will welcome members of the public on Oct 21 between 10 am and 2 pm at its Ferguson St location.
The open day aims to engage the local community in fire awareness with a recruitment campaign, while a free sausage sizzle will also be on offer.
There will be a bushfire and grassfire safety display, a residential fire safety display, a recruitment display and a host of children’s activities.
‘‘CFA open days are a great opportunity for people to find out how to best protect themselves, their family and property from fire this summer,’’ CFA chief officer Steve Warrington said.
‘‘Importantly, people who engage with emergency services are more likely to respond more effectively to warnings and directions during times of emergency.
‘‘Developing trust and familiarity between the community and emergency services is a crucial step in ensuring safety and greatly assists our members in their critical role of the protection of life and property.
‘‘We’re expecting another busy fire season. Although we have been experiencing heavy rainfall across some areas of the state we expect a warm, dry summer.’’
