B-GRADE Eastern Hill v Tallarook

Eastern Hill consolidated its spot in the top six of the B-grade competition with a strong win against Tallarook on Saturday.

Despite some early wickets from Tallarook’s danger man Dale Short (4-25 off nine overs), Eastern Hill soon wrested control back from the visiting side.

Their innings was set up by Michael Brown (52) and captain Dallas Bergowicz, who smashed 12 boundaries on the way to a mammoth 95 runs.

Glen Loraine also made 24 runs for Eastern Hill, while Tallarook’s Adam Howard took 2-20 off nine overs.

Chasing a hefty total, Tallarook then struggled with the bat, with captain Dale Short (24) and tailender Mitchell Itter (22) the highest scorers.

Izaac Feery almost equalled his best bowling figures by taking 4-29, while Hayden Szczykulski took 2-21 and Tyler Peacock finished with 2-25 off their nine overs.

Seymour v Puckapunyal

Seymour remains on top of the ladder after a five-wicket victory against Puckapunyal at Chittick Park.

While the visitors won the toss and elected to bat, they could not complete their 40 overs and were bowled out for 82 runs.

Puckapunyal was ripped apart by Seymour’s Joseph Pollock (4-15 with five maidens) and Simon van Duinen (5-12 with four maidens).

Then, led by captain Michael Woldhuis (26), James Noonan (16) and Lovepreet Singh (15), the home side cruised to victory with five wickets in hand.

Other games

Meanwhile the Royals went down to Pyalong by six wickets, Flowerdale lost to Alexandra in a high-scoring contest by 62 runs, Kilmore defeated Avenel by eight wickets, and Broadford beat Yea Tigers by seven wickets.

C-GRADE Puckapunyal Wanderers v Seymour Maroon

Seymour Maroon was sent in to bat and posted a solid total despite failing to complete its allotted overs.

While the visitors were at one point under heavy pressure at 5-36, Danny Fountain (45) and Tom McCooey (27) turned things around.

Puckapunyal Wanderers’ batsmen were then wiped out by Dan McLarty, who recorded his best bowling figures with 4-3 off eight overs, and Steve Bruce who finished with 3-18 off seven overs.

Seymour Maroon is now on the cusp of C-Grade’s top four, while the loss leaves the Wanderers eighth on the ladder.

Broadford Black v Kilmore

A dominant display by one of the Broadford side’s opening batsman, Matt Clayton, set up a strong win over Kilmore at Broadford Sec.

Clayton finished the innings unbeaten on 96 runs, just running out of time to nab a century, while Nick Simons nearly equalled his best with 43 runs.

Kilmore managed to put up a strong fight in their innings, but eventually fell well short of their 177-run chase.

Brenton Smith was the best bowler on the day for Broadford Black, taking 4-21 off eight overs, with the home side’s first win of the season lifting them to seventh place on the ladder.
