‘‘The acoustics of the hall were most favourable to this sort of music,’’ Ms Lim said.

‘‘And to see the quintet in the round at ground level allows the audience to appreciate the interplay between the performers as well.

‘‘It’s not something you get in a large setting. The intimacy was a real bonus.

‘‘They played a good range of music and leader Eric Andersen briefly walked us through the history of each composer.

‘‘People in the audience were sitting back in their chairs with their eyes closed — they were loving it.’’

And there’s hopes the group will return soon for another performanc­e.

‘‘Oxalis enjoyed themselves immensely and said they wish to return next year,’’ Ms Lim said.
