Stu­dents show off skills

Sey­mour GOTAFE’s hos­pi­tal­ity staff and their friends and fam­i­lies came to­gether last week to cel­e­brate the suc­cesses of the 2018 VETiS Hos­pi­tal­ity stu­dents.

The VETiS hos­pi­tal­ity pro­gram has been run­ning at the Sey­mour cam­pus for nine years and is cur­rently led by GOTAFE train­ers Jodi Rech­stein­erSan­ders and Jayson San­ders.

These hos­pi­tal­ity stu­dents at­tend classes for two years, and this year’s co­hort is made up of stu­dents from Sey­mour Col­lege, Wal­lan Sec­ondary Col­lege, Sey­mour Flex­i­ble Learn­ing Cen­tre, Yea Sec­ondary Col­lege and TAFE VCAL stu­dents.

The stu­dents have spent their time at GOTAFE di­vided be­tween the­ory and prac­ti­cal skill de­vel­op­ment in the op­er­at­ing com­mer­cial kitchen, of­ten cater­ing for busy lunches in Shear­ers Restau­rant through­out the year and gain­ing valu­able work­place ex­pe­ri­ence.

Train­ers and stu­dents worked along­side each other to de­liver a su­perb din­ner to guests, al­low­ing the stu­dents to show­case their tal­ents and skills learned to their fam­i­lies and friends.
