Town marks 175 years

Sey­mour is the place to be this week­end. The town is cel­e­brat­ing its 175th year, with a jam-packed sched­ule of events set to en­ter­tain the whole fam­ily on Satur­day and Sun­day.

A street pa­rade will be held on Satur­day and Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda San­der­son and past and present coun­cil­lors will be lead­ing the pa­rade be­hind the po­lice es­cort.

The Sey­mour Goul­burn Lions Club will be march­ing with their new mas­cot for the first time, and the Guides will be in pe­riod uni­forms.

The RSL, Sey­mour Col­lege, Scouts, SES, Sey­mour Agri­cul­tural and Pas­toral So­ci­ety, Sey­mour Car Club, Army and CFA per­son­nel will also form part of the pa­rade.

Set up for the pa­rade is from 1 pm on Satur­day, with the pa­rade start­ing at 2 pm at the top end of Sta­tion St, near the RSL, and fin­ish­ing at Kings Park.

Var­i­ous groups and or­gan­i­sa­tions will be at Kings Park in the af­ter­noon with static dis­plays, and Sey­mour FM 103.9 will be cov­er­ing the pa­rade with a live broad­cast, and af­ter­wards rov­ing around Kings Park.

The Sey­mour and Dis­trict His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, Sey­mour Rail­way Her­itage Cen­tre, Viet­nam Vet­er­ans Memo­rial Walk in­for­ma­tion booth and Sey­mour and Dis­trict Art So­ci­ety at the Old Court House will open their venues dur­ing the day.

On Satur­day evening, the Sey­mour Goul­burn Lions Club will host an open-air popup cin­ema.

The film Red Dog will be show­ing and will be­gin at dusk.

A sausage siz­zle, drinks and pop­corn will be on sale from 6.30 pm.

The cel­e­bra­tions con­tinue on Sun­day, which is Re­mem­brance Day.

Start­ing at 11 am at the hos­pi­tal gates will be the com­mem­o­ra­tion ser­vice for the 100th an­niver­sary for the end of the First World War.

A bar­be­cue and tours will be held at Aus­tralian Light Horse Memo­rial Park from 12.30 pm.

The fi­nal plan­ning meet­ing for the week­end will be held tonight at 7 pm at the Sey­mour RSL, for any­one wish­ing to at­tend.
