The Valiant Expanding Horizons

Major event series launches next month

SFX: The Sci-Fi and Fantasy Magazine - - Red alert -

Just as the House of Ideas did with Marvels, The Valiant is a statement of intent. Co- written by Jeff Lemire and Matt Kindt and drawn by Paolo Rivera, the four- parter is Valiant Entertainment’s most ambitious release to date.

“We really wanted to do a story that was a clean and easy entry point,” says Lemire. “It’s a big event story that features the whole universe, but involves no tie- ins or crossovers. It’s totally self- contained so you need no prior Valiant knowledge to understand it.”

After working exclusively for DC for several years, Lemire is enjoying exploring other superhero stables. “To me, these characters are still so young,” he says. “There’s a lot of untapped potential and I’m being given the creative freedom to make them my own.”

The Valiant will initially focus on Bloodshot and Eternal Warrior. “We wanted something small and personal, to contrast all the bigger events and world- ruining stuff that happens,” says Kindt. “Initially we were just going to tell this quiet, heartfelt story. But as we got into it, we started getting some bigger and crazier ideas. So our small story blew up!”

The Valiant is published in December.

Bloodshot and the gang are ready for their close- up.
