Noel Clarke stars in, directs, produces and supplies “additional material” to this surprisingly entertaining switch- your- brain- off indie sci- fi blast. Noel Clarke’s oeuvre is not for everyone, but he might have found his niche here, playing a PTSD- addled squaddie who experiences the world in mysterious and upsetting ten- minute bursts thanks to some particularly nasty tech.

There are issues – the anachronistic mix of future and present- day technology is the most glaring – and some of the frequent, lengthy single camera shot fight scenes feel a bit playground indulgent. But the plot unravels nicely, with Ian Somerhalder oozing nicely through his evil part and UFC star Michael Bisping setting himself up as a dead cert as a future big- screen mid- boss.
