De­spite the fact it was taken away from him and mu­ti­lated be­yond all recog­ni­tion, Joss Whe­don never gave up on his 1992 film Buffy The Vam­pire Slayer. When his TV take on the con­cept hit screens five years later, it was as though he’d man­aged to re­vive a Franken­stein’s mon­ster who wore lip­stick, wor­ried about her homework and killed demons. With witty word­play, twisted plot­ting, de­ranged vi­o­lence and har­row­ing losses, Miss Sum­mers was in a class of her own.
