Daredevil Who Dares Wins
With Netflix swiftly renewing Daredevil after the runaway success of the first series, Charlie Cox will soon don the red leather again. Doug Petrie ( Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez ( Sons Of Anarchy) are taking over from the departing Steven DeKnight as showrunners, and Cox is hoping that next year’s second season will delve even deeper into Matt Murdock’s colourful mythos, starting with Hornhead’s most famous old flame.
“Matt makes a reference in the first season to ‘ that Greek girl that I dated in college,’ so it’ll be fun if Elektra makes it in,” he teases. “Obviously, Bullseye is one of the great Daredevil villains, so at some point I hope to see him as well. Frank Castle – aka The Punisher – would also be great, and maybe more of Wilson Fisk.”
According to Cox, the new series could reveal further details about Karen Page’s troubled background. “I’d love to see a bit of her backstory,” he says. “There’s hints of it in the first season, that she has a dubious past, and a lot of the fans will know what that relates to, so maybe we might get the chance to see that. In the first season, we saw where Foggy and Matt’s chemistry comes from, so it’ll be interesting to see where Karen has come from, and also to explore where that relationship with Matt Murdock goes.”
While there’s speculation that Daredevil and his fellow Defenders Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist might show up in Avengers: Infinity War, Cox is especially keen to explore The Man Without Fear’s long- standing friendship with Spider- Man himself. “Peter Parker was Matt’s best friend for a period of time,” he says. “And what about Black Widow as his ex- girlfriend? That would be a very interesting dynamic, and I would hope to see some of that drama unfold.”
