Smart Sci- fi

1 Ghost In The Shell is one of the most thoughtprovoking anime movies ever made, and you don’t want to see it go down the explodey route when it heads West. “Just don’t dumb it down for the US teen audience,” says Peter Regan. “Remember that Ghost is a classic that deserves respect.”

Section 9

2 Despite the controversy surrounding Scarlett Johansson’s casting as Kusanagi, she’s earned some serious genre cred playing Black Widow, so we’ve no doubt she’ll do a superb job. Claire Lim, meanwhile, has a brilliant idea for who should play her partner: “Ron Perlman could work as Batou.”

Don’t Be The Matrix

3 Ghost In The Shell was a crucial influence on The Matrix, but the anime has a style of its own and Doug Charles wants the live- action version to retain that. “Don’t make it The Matrix 2.0. No leather trench coats, no ubiquitous sunglasses.”

Tachikoma Everywhere

4 If there aren’t adorable robotic Tachikoma in every frame it sounds like you’ll be boycotting the film in droves. “Tachikoma, loads of them,” says Peter Sturgeon. Ian Coomber adds, “As long as they’re done correctly, of course.”

A Faithful Adaptation

5 Most of all, you wanted a live- action Ghost In The Shell that stayed true to the original. “The anime is outstanding. If they can capture any of that they’ll be doing well. Sadly, they’ve tried it before and fell short with Aeon Flux,” says Andy Hall.
