The Dark Knight ( 2008)
“Why so serious?” growled Heath Ledger’s Joker in this middle entry of Christopher Nolan’s Bat trilogy, delivering a performance so masterful he wiped the floor with Jack Nicholson’s “defining” earlier portrayal. More bombastic than Batman Begins, more purposeful than The Dark Knight Rises, TDK was a defining moment for “realistic” comicbook movies. Serpentine, dark as hell ( but funny, too), it set the bar for comic adaps thereafter. Few have come close since.
Scarlett Johansson: white van woman.
