While Danny Boyle re­fused to re­fer to the brain- munch­ing bad­dies in 28 Days Later as “zom­bies”, Shaun Of The Dead em­braced its groan­ing galumphers with teary- eyed joy. Com­ing out of nowhere ( its cre­ative team were best known for a lit­tle show called Spaced), it sin­gle- hand­edly made stars of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and direc­tor Edgar Wright, and forged its own genre – lest we for­get, the rom- zom- com, which is still alive and well to­day in films like Life Af­ter Beth.
