looms large in the DNA of this zombie thriller. Amnesiac Dan wanders confused through deserted Brighton. He meets a gang of friends living in the ruins, and together they dodge the infected ( fast- running, fond of violence and drooling), and trigger- happy squaddies.

Nothing you haven’t seen before, then. The acting and dialogue is variable and the pacing is all over the place. It’s also smeared in Horror Green – the sludgy colour grading that’s all over genre flicks at the moment.

That said, it’s an impressive achievement. Darkest Day was made for just £ 1,000, but you wouldn’t know it. There are subtle but convincing effects, a couple of mass zombie stampedes and its locations are visually interesting.

A candid Making Of and trailers. Will Salmon
