towards the end of the New Adventures range of spin- off novels, Damaged Goods was the first Doctor Who story written by a certain Russell T Davies; now it’s received the full audio adaptation treatment from Big Finish. The plot follows the Seventh Doctor and companions Roz Forrester and Chris Cwej as they arrive at a run- down London council estate in 1987, where an ancient weapon is about to be unleashed. adaptation of the final Adventure novel by future new Who writer Gareth Roberts. Starring the Fourth Doctor, Romana II and K- 9, this joyously inventive romp sees the TARDIS arriving on a bleak planetoid where an extremely polite conflict is being fought between humans and the tortoiselike Chelonians. It’s an almost note- perfect blend of comedy, drama and intricate storytelling; all Fourth Doctor fans should grab it.
Finally, the latest download- only Short Trips story is The King Of The Dead, which pitches the Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa into an unsettling mystery at an interactive theatrical event in the ’ 80s. The enjoyable story finds some interesting angles on Nyssa’s character, while Sarah Sutton does an excellent job on the narration.
