to­wards the end of the New Ad­ven­tures range of spin- off nov­els, Dam­aged Goods was the first Doc­tor Who story writ­ten by a cer­tain Rus­sell T Davies; now it’s re­ceived the full au­dio adap­ta­tion treat­ment from Big Fin­ish. The plot fol­lows the Sev­enth Doc­tor and com­pan­ions Roz For­rester and Chris Cwej as they ar­rive at a run- down Lon­don coun­cil es­tate in 1987, where an an­cient weapon is about to be un­leashed. adap­ta­tion of the fi­nal Adventure novel by fu­ture new Who writer Gareth Roberts. Star­ring the Fourth Doc­tor, Ro­mana II and K- 9, this joy­ously in­ven­tive romp sees the TARDIS ar­riv­ing on a bleak plan­e­toid where an ex­tremely po­lite con­flict is be­ing fought be­tween hu­mans and the tor­toise­like Ch­elo­ni­ans. It’s an al­most note- per­fect blend of com­edy, drama and in­tri­cate sto­ry­telling; all Fourth Doc­tor fans should grab it.

Fi­nally, the lat­est down­load- only Short Trips story is The King Of The Dead, which pitches the Fifth Doc­tor, Te­gan and Nyssa into an un­set­tling mys­tery at an in­ter­ac­tive the­atri­cal event in the ’ 80s. The en­joy­able story finds some in­ter­est­ing an­gles on Nyssa’s char­ac­ter, while Sarah Sut­ton does an ex­cel­lent job on the nar­ra­tion.
