Happy be­lated birth­day. Re­ally en­joy­ing the an­niver­sary is­sue. Have to say I agree with Nick Setch­field re­gard­ing The Dark Knight Re­turns’ in­flu­ence over all things Bat­man. It’s a great book, but I’d say Year One is bet­ter. Peo­ple seem to for­get that Frank Miller’s other at­tempts at Bat­man, Dark Knight Strikes Back and All

were to­tal rub­bish. I’d love to see a Bat­man film closer to the style of the Arkham videogames, which have been bril­liant.

I was also very sad to hear about the treat­ment of Joss Whe­don on so­cial media re­gard­ing Black Widow’s story in Age of Ultron. When she re­ferred to her­self as a mon­ster, I took that to be about her role as an as­sas­sin and not her in­abil­ity to have chil­dren. Also, I fail to un­der­stand why her ro­man­tic sto­ry­line was seen as detri­men­tal to the char­ac­ter. You can’t be a kick- ass hero and have a love life?

It is a pity that we’ve yet to see a su­per­hero movie with a fe­male lead char­ac­ter, but I’m look­ing for­ward to Cap­tain Marvel, which I hope starts to re­dress the bal­ance. There’s a lack of strong
