When publisher Sam Jordison recently asked Guardian readers to nominate a Discworld novel to peruse along with The Colour Of Magic for its reading group, Night Watch easily won out. Why? Perhaps because it’s the Discworld novel where Pratchett’s recurring moral concerns around how to live well seem most personally aligned with a much- loved character – time- travelling copper Sam Vimes. A wonderful book.
