“‘ Death Wish’ was my favourite episode of the show,” says the Captain Janeway actress. “It was wonderfully philosophical and existential.” Originally airing 19 February 1996, “Death Wish” is one of Voyager’s strongest, but most controversial, entries. In this episode the crew accidentally releases an imprisoned Q who has been sentenced to eternal imprisonment. He seeks asylum aboard Voyager so that he can commit suicide to end the boredom of life as an immortal being. “It dealt very, very intelligently with the concept of suicide and the right of an individual to die,” says Mulgrew. “Exploring a topic like that was part of what made Voyager a very brave show.”
