“They’ve been talk­ing about it for three or four years,” says Gary Nel­son of Dis­ney’s po­ten­tial re­make of The Black Hole. “It would be won­der­ful. I think the rea­son that they haven’t gone for­ward with it is that no­body can come up with a real good con­cept about what the film’s go­ing to be about.”

Rose­brook shares Nel­son’s cau­tious en­thu­si­asm. “You’re deal­ing to­day with movies like Grav­ity,” he says. “You’ve got chal­lenges from tech­nol­ogy and sto­ry­telling far big­ger than in 1979. And yet the idea of go­ing through the black hole and cre­at­ing some­thing that no­body has ever cre­ated – you could have a win­ner.”
