My favourite film is It’s A Won­der­ful Life, i see it ev­ery christ­mas eve

– I don’t think he’s got the recog­ni­tion that he de­serves, and I al­ways thought that was a shame. Peo­ple dis­miss him by say­ing, “Oh, he’s only as good as the scripts, he didn’t bring a whole lot,” but I very much dis­agree. I think that his Ham­mer films are in­cred­i­bly imag­i­na­tive. Of course, every­thing was handed over to him by Ham­mer, but those movies are pho­tographed and de­signed in such a spe­cific way. It’s sim­i­lar to Terence Young do­ing the first cou­ple of James Bond movies – he clearly cre­ated that whole brand, and de­signed the whole Bond aura. For me, Terence Fisher did that the ex­act same way with Ham­mer. I mean, I know back then it was dif­fer­ent and peo­ple were more like crafts­men, but I think there’s a much more in­ter­est­ing film­maker there.
